History

As Sakura Wars if absolutely full of choices for you to pick, this history is written as if the player has chosen options that will help boost Ogami's relationship with Erica. It covers the date Ogami goes on with Erica during Episode 6, a Day off in Paris, and should I ever decide to update Erica it will include her ending as well. This history also includes information from the OVA Ecole de Paris which sheds a bit of light on Erica before her time in the Paris Floral Assault Squad and how she came to be recruited.

Sakura Wars 1 and 2

While I won't be going too in-depth with this part I feel knowing about what happened in the first two games makes understanding the third one that little bit easier, especially as a number of characters from Sakura Wars 1 and 2 show up in 3. You also play all the games from Ichiro Ogami's point of view, so knowing how he came into his position of captain of the Imperial Floral Assault Squad and how he came to Paris in the first place would probably help a little as well.

Having graduated from the military academy, Ichiro Ogami was transferred to the Great Imperial Theatre in Ginza. While at the theatre, Ichiro met Sakura Shinguji and all the other members of the Imperial Floral Assault Squad. To hide their activities, the members of the Assault Squad would also be a part of the Imperial Drama Group. Whenever something would threaten the peace of Teito the Imperial Drama Group would change into the Assault Squad and combat any threats that would come their way by using their Koubu, psycheon armor that can be controlled by those that can use spiritual powers. They're like mini steam powered mechs basically. At one point, the Hive of Darkness commanded by Tenkai tried to overthrow the government and bring disorder to Teito. The Hive of Darkness was infiltrated by the Assault Squad and peace was returned to Teito. Having stopped Tenkai, Ogami left his position as the captain of the Imperial Floral Assault Squad and left for South America to take part in overseas training.

After completing his training, Ogami was ordered to return to his post as captain as a new threat had appeared in Teito, the Black Demon Association. Once again, Ogami and the Imperial Floral Assault Squad was able to defend Teito and peace returned. Following this, Ogami was sent to France, Paris to start studying after having become the lieutenant of the Imperial Navy. Sakura Wars 3 begins as Ogami first arrives in Paris in May.

Early days and Ecole de Paris

When she was a young girl, Erica and her parents were caught in a dreadful car accident on the streets of Paris. As the oncoming car approached Erica and her family, Erica's spiritual powers activiated. The car was destroyed and an explosion followed, resulting in the death of Erica's parents and a number of bystanders as well. However, due to her spiritual powers activating at just the right moment, Erica was able to survive the accident and was unharmed. With her new spiritual powers, believing them to be a gift from God, Erica set about healing the wounded and doing what she could with the power she was given. As time went by, the townspeople around Erica began to resent her for her powers and what they were capable of, resulting in her taking refuge in a monastery in Paris. In 1924, while Erica was praying in the monastery, Grand Mere took note of her spiritual powers and recruited her into Paris Floral Assault Squad so she could help in fighting off any spiritual threats to Paris. Erica soon began visiting the 'Theatre Chattes Noires' where the headquarters of the assault squad are located, the theatre being used as a cover for the assault squad's plans and activities, much like the Imperial Theatre and its Drama Group in Teito.

Come January 1926 and Erica had undergone a year of training to help her adjust to piloting her Koubu and learning how to be a PFAS member. Despite her tendency to take naps in the middle of her training simulations and her clumsy behaviour, Erica managed to learn how to pilot her Koubu properly by the time Ichiro Ogami arrived in Paris to help act as the captain of the PFAS. Presumably around this time she also learnt how to fight with her signature machine guns. Shortly before this time, Erica met and befriended Glycine Bleumer who helped Erica in defeating a monster in one of Paris' museums that was formed from the spirit energy around the city.

Sakura Wars 3

Ogami arrives in Paris, believing to have travelled abroad for the sake of studying. It's shortly after his arrival that Erica runs into him at the European Exposition. A car on show ends up veering wildly out on control, narrowly missing Ogami before crashing, leaving the driver badly injured. Ogami rushes over to help the driver, only for Erica to appear and stop him. She uses her spiritual powers to help heal the man before handing Ogami a flyer for the Chattes Noires, telling him to keep what she did a secret and to come watch her dance sometime. Ogami later visits the theatre and watches Erica perform her routine on stage, ending with her tripping mid-dance and ending the performance. He also meets Grand Mere here as talks with her about why he's come to Paris, not knowing that the PFAS exists or that Grand Mere is in charge of both the squad and Chattes Noires.

The following day, Ogami is getting himself breakfast at a cafe when he spots Erica nearby. He calls her over, only for her to end up ruining his breakfast by falling over and causing a scene. Due to the damages Erica caused the two are chased out of the cafe. As a way of apologising she offers to show Ogami around the city, which he agrees to. The two wander around until it begins to rain. Ogami and Erica decide to take shelter until the rain stops. During this time, Erica alludes to how she came to join the monastery and what she thinks of her spiritual powers before she runs off to attend to other business.

Ogami later attends a ball held by the Countess of Lilac, who is revealed to be Grand Mere as well, who tells him that 'women can take on any number of faces'. During the ball a rabbit-looking man appears and starts attacking guests with a pair a large shears, stating that he won't allow humans to do as they please. These half-human half-animal creatures are later referred to as kaijin. Erica shows up and fires at Ciseaux with her machine gun, prompting Ogami to wonder what is going on. Erica gives the order to evacuate the ball before she and Ogami flee and join up with Grand Mere and Glycine in the Chattes Noires where it is revealed that he wasn't being brought to Paris to study but to be the captain of the Paris Floral Assault Squad, given his past experience working as the captain of the Imperial Floral Assault Squad. Together with Erica and Glycine, the three defeat Ciseaux and his steam beast with their Koubus. With Ciseaux dispatched, Ogami and the PFAS continue to fight off threats to Paris.

During a trip to the market with Erica, she and Ogami run in Coquelicot, a little girl from the circus who works with the animals and performs magic tricks. Shortly after meeting her the two also meet Karuchera, a kaijin in disguise as a human who also shows up to be hired to work at the circus after showing she works well with the animals. Ogami and Erica decide to watch one of Coquelicot's performances as the circus, in which Coquelicot asks for a member from the audience to come and take part. Erica excitedly runs down to join Coquelicot in her magic trick, resulting in her being cut in half as a part of the performance, much to Erica's dismay. The two then go to speak to Coquelicot after her performance, but find her busy talking with Karuchera and decide to leave her be. Coquelicot asks if she can call Karuchera 'mama', having no family herself and feeling particularly close to Karuchera. Karuchera agrees, referring to the girl as her lovely little Coquelicot. When it's later revealed that Karuchera is another kaijin, Python, Coquelicot gets upset to the point where her own spirit powers come to light. Despite Erica and Glycine not feeling happy knowing a child would be fighting along with them, Grand Mere intends to recruit Coquelicot into the Paris Floral Assault Squad. She later joins the squad on her own when a kind mans he knows ends up being attacked by Python. Erica then heads out with the rest of the assault squad to defeat Python.

Wanting the assault squad to work on their teamwork, Ogami has Erica, Glycine and Coquelicot play games like kick the can and badminton together. Glycine doesn't understand why a noble such as herself should be playing such games and decides to challenge Ogami to a duel. The two fight at Glycine's mansion, though due to Ogami hesitating he ends up losing the duel and is put to work as a maid by Glycine. Erica and Coquelicot also decide to help out as maids with Erica saying that as her job is to help out those in need she asked to become a maid as well. Following their time as maids, another kaijin appears and starts kidnapping nobles, holding them captive in the Bastille prison. The Paris Floral Assault Squad go out to fight and defeat the kaijin, with Glycine learning a lesson about teamwork and how she should probably relax about the whole being a noble thing.

Wanting a fifth member for their group, Grand Mere insists Ogami try to recruit Lobelia Carlini, a captured criminal with a 1000 year sentence in prison. Ogami, along with Erica and the rest of the team go to meet Lobelia in her special jail cell, dug 15 feet into the ground. Known across Paris for her crimes and her powers which had her being compared to a devil, Lobelia was placed in a straitjacket upon her capture to ensure she wouldn't escape. When Ogami and the squad first confront her, Lobelia attacks them with a stream of fire which she conjured by using her own spiritual powers. Luckily Erica protects the squad with her own powers just in time. Ogami tries to persuade Lobelia to join the PFAS but Lobelia refuses. Before they can leave, Erica notices Lobelia is injured and tries to heal her, first removing her straitjacket. This results in Erica being held hostage by Lobelia with her threatening to kill Erica unless all the locks in the prison are opened so she can make her escape. Erica manages to save herself by unintentionally confusing Lobelia, leading to her being captured again. The PFAS prepare to leave after Lobelia is recaptured, though not before Erica stops and manages to heal Lobelia, this time keeping her straitjacket on.

Lobelia later escapes again and is approached by Ogami and Grand Mere. A deal is made where for every good deed Lobelia commits as a part of the PFAS 10 years will be taken off of her sentence, Furthermore, she is promised bonuses providing she act accordingly and listen to Ohgami as her captain. With Lobelia as their newest member, Erica and the rest of the assault squad face and defeat the kaijin, Nadel, who was planning to destroy priceless works of art in the Louvre. On their next mission, the assault squad defeat the kaijin Masque du Corbeau and add another member to their team, a girl named Hanabi.

During some down time between kaijin attacks, the members of the assault squad are given a short vacation. Ogami invites Erica out during their vacation after some urging from Grand Mere to go on a date. On their date they visit the park where Erica joins a game a football with some children and eventually convinces Ogami to join in as well. After the game, Erica spots a boy who was sitting by himself and tells Ogami about how she, too, was also shy and timid at a young age. She mentions that she only really felt like an adult when she was able to say "Let me join in too". Though she tries talking to the boy to see if he wants to play with the other children, the boy runs off. Erica wonders if maybe she should leave the boy until he can say that he wants to join in too without her help. (It's revealed in an extra conversation between Ogami and Erica that Erica has decided to continue offering to play with the boy, and come Erica's ending he has started playing games with the other children thanks to Erica's help.)

Their date is cut short when a disaster happens resulting in the destruction of the Champs Elysees. The Paris Floral Assault Squad gets together to investigate only to find another kaijin, this one far more powerful than the last. Though the assault squad tries their best they are ultimately defeated as a result of their lack of teamwork. This new kaijin, Calmar, resurrects the five other previously defeated kaijin and plans to set about destroying Paris with their help. Before departing, Calmar and his forces lay a severe beat-down on Ogami and the assault squad, only stopping when Calmar grows bored of the squad.

After their defeat, Ogami is trouble about the squad's defeat at the hands of Calmar, feeling responsible for their loss as their captain. While working at Chattes Noires, a message comes flying in through a window tied to a rose, stating 'Light comes from the East, Sakura blooms in the city of Paris'. Looking for answers for what the message could mean, Ogami sets out to look around the surrounding area for clues. He ends up running into Erica who explains she's going to the European Exposition grounds as an Exposition of Flowers of the World is being held there. It turns out that a sakura tree is as the exposition, which is what the message that was thrown through the Chattes Nories window was hinting at. Sakura Shinguji then appears from behind the tree, having travelled to France from Japan to see Ogami along with two other members of the Imperial Floral Assault Squad. It's later revealed that one of Ogami's friends, Kayama, was the person who wrote the message after he came to Paris and heard of Ogami's defeat. Erica excitedly greets the Imperial Floral Assault Squad members and soon hurries off to prepare a welcome party for everyone so the Imperial and Paris squads could meet one another.

Sadly the welcome party does not go well, with both squads starting fights with one another. Erica manages to upset Sakura by saying Ogami once told her that he would be at her side forever, later mentioning that Ogami only told her this in a dream that she had. In order to help both squads make up, Ogami suggests that they all take part in a dance competition, believing that watching each group perform on stage would help them reconcile. Both teams take part, with the Paris squad noticing that the Imperial squad's performance has something that their own lack. Ogami mentions that the Imperial squad works together and uses teamwork to overcome their problems, which the Paris squad has trouble with. Just before the winners of the dance competition are about to be announced, Ciseaux and Python attack the competition and soon scale the Eiffel Tower under which the contest was being held, intending to destroy it. The Paris and Imperial Assault Squads then work together to fight against the kaijin, with the Paris squad taking on Python while the Imperial squad attacks Ciseaux. The kaijin threat is defeated and the Paris squad learns how to properly utilise teamwork in their battles like the Imperial squad manages to do. After the battle, Ogami presents both squads with the winners trophy from the dance competition, saying that the win goes to both the Imperial Floral Assault Squad and the Paris Floral Assault Squad for their work today. Everyone wins, everyone is happy.

With the departure of Sakura and the other Imperial squad members, Erica mentions she wants to begin special training to catch up to the other assault squad. The rest of the Paris squad agrees, leading to Grand Mere planning for some special coaches to arrive to help train the Paris squad. Ogami goes out to find where the special coaches are waiting with Erica running into him in the process, literally. While the two pick themselves up the special coaches appear, turning out to be more members from the Imperial Theatre Group. Everyone immediately returns to Chattes Noires where the Paris Floral Assault Squad's training begins. Everyone on the team receives a passing grade, save for Erica. She fails the battle technique training for not knowing how to handle a hostage situation properly, shoots herself with her machine gun loaded with paint rounds just to see if it would really hurt and even fails her Koubu training by making the simulation explode despite being guided on what to do. While the special coaches don't praise Erica on much, they do mention they feel she has an even greater power than what she has which has yet to have been awoken.

Knowing her scores for the special training were low, Erica tries to train more in order to improve herself, worrying that she might just be additional baggage for the rest of the squad to carry around. Later on, the priest from the monastery shows up at Chattes Noires and wishes to speak with Ogami. He informs Ogami that Erica was actually removed from the convent half a year ago, having asked her to leave after the priest had reached his limit from dealing with Erica's antics. He goes on to say that while Erica is the reflection of a perfect sister, one that wishes to serve the people with a true heart, she simply cause more trouble than what she fixes. She failed when it came to cleaning, gardening and cooking, though she continued to work and stay at the monastery as Erica got the wrong idea from the priest's encouragement. Over time as Erica became more enthusiastic her failures became worse, leading to the priest asking Ogami if he will tell Erica directly that she must not come back to the convent. Sadly, Erica overheard the conversation and quickly runs out of Chattes Noires and into the rain. The Paris Floral Assault Squad sets out to look for her.

Ogami manages to find Erica standing on a bridge, soaking wet from the rain. He approaches her and tries to convince her to return to Chattes Noires. Erica starts to cry, all while trying her best to keep a smile on her face. She talks about how much of an idiot she is and how she's let everyone in the assault squad down, and what's more she's now been cut off from the convent. She states she never realised how much of an idiot she was until now, and because of that she's a failure. Erica refuses to return to the Chattes Noires as she doesn't want to trouble everyone there any longer, her speech becoming slow and broken. Ogami realises she's become ill from her time out in the rain and takes her back to his apartment to warm up and spend the night.

During the night, Erica begins to shine brightly with spiritual energy. Ogami realises that what the special coaches were saying must have been true and that if Erica realised just how strong she is then she would be able to awaken her true powers.

The following morning, Erica is greeted by the rest of the Assault Squad outside of Ogami's apartment building. They all tell her in their own way just how important she is to the rest of the team and that she's their friend, no matter how she might act or what happens. Despite their encourage, Erica asks if she really should come back when she's such an unnecessary human being. Ogami gives her some final encouragement to return, making Erica reconsider for a moment. Finally she decides to return, asking everyone to please look after her even if she might be clumsy and a bother at times.

After the team reunites, another kaijin attack occurs. The resurrected kaijin, Nadel, is reported to be attacking the Chattes Noires directly. The assault squad quickly returns to the Chattes Noires and enter their Koubu which had recently be upgraded to be even more powerful, allowing the assault squad a much better chance when fighting against the kaijin and their forces. Everyone seems to praise how wonderful the new Koubu are, except for Erica, who seems to be having great trouble with piloting her new Koubu. Whereas everyone has enough spiritual energy to pilot their Koubu to its full ability, Erica can only manage the most basic of movements. The assault squad manages to defeat Nadel with great ease, however before they can celebrate the kaijin Corbeau shows up. Nadel was only being used as a decoy so Corbeau could observe how well the Paris Assault Force could fight. He picks out Erica as the weakest member and orders his steam beasts to attack her, prompting the Assault Squad to rush to her defence. Erica then watches as her friends protect her as she tries to get her Koubu to move. She gets more and more desperate as time passes, at first apologising to everyone and then praying to God. She asks for a miracle, one that will save her friends. Just as Corbeau prepares to finish everyone off and attack the Chattes Noires, Erica's true power awakens with a flash of bright light. With Erica ready to fight, the rest of the Assault Squad gets back up and joins her in defeating Corbeau.

After the battle, Erica is given a room in the Chattes Noires attic for her to stay in. She is overjoyed and happily bounces on the bed in her new room as the rest of her friends watch on. The priest from the convent returns to Chattes Noires at this point, wishing to speak to Erica. He tells her that though he wanted her to leave the convent, he and the other sisters do not hate her, and they praise her cheerfulness. He tells Erica she is free to visit the monastery whenever she feels like it, to which Erica reacts happily to.

Grand Mere and the assault squad then meet to discuss what they should do next. Having found a great concentration of spiritual energy underground on the Isle of Cite, beneath Notre Dame. The squad agrees that if that is where the kaijin's base is then that is where they will go to fight next. The assault squad members all seem confident, saying that with their new Koubu's and Erica's wonderful new power they'll be able to take on anything! For the time being, Erica smiles and agrees with the rest of them. However once she's alone, Erica looks horrified. Knowing how much power she has inside of her she becomes scared and starts to worry about what might happen. Knowing how clumsy she is, with such incredible power she wonders if she might end up hurting her friends, or worse.
